Orphaned at age 12 and shuffled from one foster family to another two months after he and his parents immigrate to America, Tao Wong grows up a secretive loner. At first, unable to speak or understand English, believing his father’s family to have abandoned him, he struggles to survive with emotional upheaval until, at age 21, he enters the San Francisco Police Academy.
Six years later, he is the youngest Lieutenant in the Homicide Division until a near fatal shooting ends his short career. He leaves the San Francisco Police Department with an unparalled reputation for leaving no unsolved cases on his record, except for one.
Unexpectedly reunited with his Hong Kong family, he accompanies his cousin, Lee Wong, a former Captain in the New York Fire Department, to Hong Kong. Immediately after their arrival, Tao is thrust into a series of near disasters that put him on a trail of clues that lead him to the solution of that one case: the fifteen-year-old unsolved brutal murder of his parents.
