This book is fiction based on actual events in the life of the author. It was written to bring attention to the plight of the many animal casualties caused by man-made or natural tragedies. Lacey was a real dog rescued from Hurricane Andrew in Florida and sent up to Canada to live out her life for the next seven years. Her medical problems were real but she was a much loved pet. She died of a grand mal seizure in 2001. The other dogs in the book are a compilation of the many terriers that have been a part of the authoras life.
