SOMETIMES THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU IS THE ONE WHO HURTS YOU THE MOST

Lily hasn't always had it easy, but that's never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She's come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up - she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily's life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He's also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle's complete aversion to relationships is disturbing.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan - her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

This book contains graphic scenes and very sensitive subject matter..

“I have so many thoughts on this book, and all of them are amazing. This book is truly spectacular. I love when an author can make you feel so much joy and sadness all at once.

The book tells the story of Lily Bloom, a young adult living in Boston. I love the character Lily! She is a strong character, who is also emotional and vulnerable. The author developed her character well so that by the second chapter, I was already in love with her. Lily starts dating Ryle, who is a handsome neurosurgeon. It would seem that her life is perfect, until she stumbles upon her old flame, Atlas. I want to point out that this book is not technically a love triangle. Lily still wants to be with Ryle, but seeing Atlas made her realize that a part of her will always love him. This is quite realistic for many people, in that sometimes it is hard to completely let go of your first love. Some may argue that this is just a set up for a potential love triangle, but the fact that this happens quite often shows that the author was trying to add reality to her fictional tale.

The character development in this book was well written. Lily grew from a young adult who didn't think she would ever move past her first love, to a strong business woman who understands that tough decisions must be made in tough situations. The development of Ryle's character was the most well done. The author knew just how to set up his character.

I also enjoyed reading the difference between the development of Lily and Ryle's relationship, and Lily and Atlas' relationship. We get to see how both relationships developed through the book, which gave the reader insight into what was going on with all three main characters.I thought that the way Hoover showed us Lily and Atlas' relationship was clever. While the book took place after Lily and Atlas had ended their relationship, Hoover came up with a clever way for us to still be able to see the development of their relationship.

Some have argued that there is too much instant love in this book, which I think is silly. Sometimes it is surprising how fast you can fall in love with someone. You think you know that person completely, and you have asked all you major questions so you think, ya, this is the person for me. But people change. You change. Sometimes it is easy to get so caught up in instant love that you are blinded by what is truly inside that person.

As some may already know, this book deals with domestic violence. I do not want to spoil anything, so I will not get into the details, but the author did a superb job of portraying a difficult situation. Yes, it was graphic, but we as readers were able to get inside the head of someone who experienced domestic violence at the hands of someone they loved. It is very easy to be on the outside and judge a person for why they stay with their abuser, but the author was able to put the reader inside the situation. I know for myself, it definitely opened my eyes to some of the thoughts a person would have, and the true suffering that they go through. One thing that the author highlighted was that the hardest part for domestic violence victims is that the abuse is done by the person who is supposed to love them the most. The person they trust the most. The person they want to build a life with. And that is the most difficult thing to come to terms with. That is the reason they falter when choosing whether or not to leave.

This book allowed me to feel a whole plethora of emotions, and I highly recommend this book. It is one of my favourite reads of 2016. If you have been a victim of domestic violence, then this may bring up some rough emotions and memories. But I praise the author for writing a story that is a reality for so many men and women. That takes courage and strength.”
