About the Author: Michael Maguire

Michael Sam Maguire was born in November 1954 in Islington, London. He was educated at Parmiter's Grammar School and left aged 16 with a handful of A/O levels to pursue a career in Racehorse Stud Management.

A fabulous two years at Brewhurst Stud in Loxwood followed before he was offered a journalist's position on The Sporting Life.

During his time at Brewhurst he had submitted various freelance equine articles to magazines & newspapers and this had paved the way to a great job on one of the UK's leading newspapers.

Michael Sam Maguire continued with freelance contributions to magazines in the UK, Australia & the USA. Both horse & greyhound racing became his passion so it wasn't long before he turned his hand to novel writing.

His first racing thriller, Shot Silk was warmly received. His other three adult novels, Slaughter Horse, Scratchproof and Scorcher, are all set in the racing world.

In the 1970s, Michael Maguire wrote two wildly unusual pony books about a robotic horse called Mylor. Despite being man-made, Mylor has character, heart and enough strength of will to propel an entire pony club. The books made an impact on anyone who read them: in a world of identikit pony girl plots, Mylor was then, and remains now, unique.

Michael Maguire is author of another children’s series, Swiftly

A whirlwind of adventures follow - and Degsey is at the forefront of the chase as the net closes around the thieves. It takes all of the greyhound's special powers to protect the people she loves, and in a dramatic twist-ending things are never quite what they seem...
