Tristan was half-way up when hooves clattered on the wharf. He spun around and saw the cluster of men with his half-brother Roderick in the forefront heading toward him. He leaped to the wharf and pulled his sword. "James, go, take my love and go." "Traitor," Roderick roared, "brings her back, or die at my hands." James hesitated. "Come with us Tristan, he means to kill ye." "Keep heart, my old friend, I may kill him." As Tristan took his stance and waited for Roderick he gave one last look as the boat whistle sounded eerily. The tide caught and swung the boat wide into the channel. Roderick was fast approaching. Alana stood alone on the foredeck staring toward the shore. She was crying; he raised his arm. "Goodbye, beloved, I swear on the blood about to be spilled, that I will find ye wherever ye are. I love you - forever!"
