Bertha realized the trouble she was in and fought back savagely. Part of the time she was in the water trying to pull Rhonda in and part of the time she was out of the water trying to be pulled onto the log by Rhonda. The log began bobbing up and down in the water, causing huge waves to break against the bank of the lake. The noise of Rhonda squalling and chattering and of Bertha slinging her head and slapping her tail in the water woke up all the critters in the lake area. The greatest battle ever fought on Lake Weeds and Willows was now in progress. The battle raged on. Sometimes Bertha was pulled out of the water and she could feel the earth shaking so bad that the acorns from the oak trees along the bank were falling into the water like rain.
