About the Author: Raduan Nassar

Raduan Nassar is a Brazilian writer, son of Lebanese immigrants. He moved to São Paulo when he was a teenager. He studied Law and Philosophy at one of the most important universities in Brazil, the University of São Paulo. In 1970, he wrote Um Copo de Cólera, published in 1978. His literature debut happened in 1975 when Lavoura Arcaica was released. The Brazilian cinema adapted both of his books (see the article Lavoura Arcaica (To the left of the father)). In 1997, Menina a Caminho, a book of tales written during the 60’s and 70’s, was released, although Raduan stopped writing in 1984. There's plenty of strength and lyricism in his literature style.

'Yes, bastard, you're the one I love'

A pair of lovers – a young female journalist and an older man who owns an isolated farm in the Brazilian outback – spend the night together. The next day they proceed to destroy each other. Amid vitriolic insults, cruelty and warring egos, their sexual adventure turns into a savage power game. This intense, erotic cult novel by one of Brazil's most infamous modernist writers explores alienation, the desire to dominate and the wish to be dominated.
