About the Author: Michelle Robinson

When I'm not up to my knees in nappies, I write children's books. I also spend a fair amount of time eating chocolate. I try to write funny, read-aloud books that parents will enjoy as much as children - after all, if you have to share the same stories umpteen times, you may as well enjoy them.
I hope you like my books enough to read them umpteen times. Thank you - Michelle.

“When it comes to learning, a lot of times my strategy is to pick out books that encourage my kids' natural interests and curiosities. At just three years old, my oldest can already tell you that Saturn is her favorite planet. I know space books are often marketed to boys, but girls can love space too! We often pretend her bed is a rocket ship when it's bedtime, so I was so excited to jump in her rocket ship and share with her the first EVER bedtime story read and recorded IN SPACE!

EAS astronaut Tim Peake read and recorded Goodnight Spaceman from the international space station, and a CD of his reading is included with the book. One track is just the story, and the other track has the old fashioned read along sounds that let you know when to turn the page. We love read alongs at our house! They allow kids some reading independence and help them learn listening skills. Also I've discovered they are a great quiet time activity when mama needs to feed the baby or daddy is washing the dishes.

I think my favorite thing about this book is that the words are simple enough on each page to make it a great read for both my one year old and my three year old. The older enjoyed the subject and space illustrations, and the younger seemed to like the rhyming rhythm and simple text.

Inspired by Tim Peake's sons, the book follows a pair of boys getting ready for bed and missing their dad. He is an astronaut, and as they say goodnight, they start to imagine what it would be like to join him on the space station for an adventure.

We've learned a lot about space, but the whole concept of the space station was new to my three year old. We were able to talk a lot about how astronauts from different countries live on the space station and perform science experiments and missions in space. She was captivated. I'm excited to use this book as a jumping off place to explore even more about astronauts at the space station with her.

I loved Mr. Peake's letter to readers encouraging boys and girls to become the next generation of space explorers. This is such a great early STEM read that I think it just might inspire a few future astronauts.”

“Ok so confession time, not only do we adore children's books in this household right now, but we are all a flutter with space related excitement as we are off to Florida for our December getaway and have managed to time our holiday perfectly to coincide with a rocket launch at Cape Canaveral. So this book is such a welcome addition to our bedtime reading and our holiday preparation.

The book itself is a sweet rhyming story featuring two little boys taking a wonderful journey to space to see their dad on his rocket ship. We say goodnight to planets on our journey before very sweetly saying goodnight to dad, safe in the knowledge he is safe light years away and will be home soon.

We have read this book over and over again, and our fourteen month old loves it. Its super short and beautifully illustrated, there are so many things to look at and point out on each page. It would be great to help small people practice their reading aloud at night.”

“I was excited to receive Goodnight Spaceman as it will be my son's first book, okay so he is not 2 yet, he is only 4.5 months old but reading is such an important thing for me and I wanted to start reading to him very early on.

This book is a great bedtime book for children, boys and girls. It is a quick read with only 32 pages and has just a few words on each page making it a great starter book for children when they learn to read themselves too.

The illustrations are fantastic and colourful which captures children instantly, the words are big and it is a lovely little story.

My son actually loves me reading this to him; he gets rather excited flailing his legs about with glee.

There is also a CD with the book, which is read by ESA Astronaut Tim Peake which is absolutely amazing.

What is even more fascinating is that it is the first ever bedtime story to be recorded in SPACE! And with Tim Peake being practically a superstar amongst young boys at the moment, inspiring them to get their rockets and spaceship toys out and play with them and maybe even inspiring them to become astronauts when they are older it is a must read.

I would definitely recommend it, my son loves it and I am sure when he learns to read he will be reading it himself too.”
